Minerva Academy Make a Thunderous Start at Dana Cup with 41 Goals in 2 games, After Historic World Youth Cup Triumph

Fresh from scripting history by becoming the first Indian team ever to win the World Youth Cup aka the Gothia Cup—the world’s largest youth football tournament—Minerva Academy have set their sights on new glory. And if the opening matches of the Dana Cup in Hjørring, Denmark are anything to go by, the boys in blue have brought their winning hunger, blistering form, and unshakable spirit with them.

The Dana Cup, one of Europe’s most prestigious youth tournaments, and the third biggest youth tournament in World Football, features top academy sides and grassroots clubs from across the globe. Competing in the Boys 14 category, Minerva have been placed in Group 6 alongside GUI Sportsklubb from Norway, Prostat Sports Academy from Uganda, Gulf United from the UAE, and Kongsberg IF, another strong Norwegian side. It’s a group packed with diversity and varying playing styles, making it a demanding challenge for any side—but Minerva have shown they’re here not just to participate, but to dominate.

Minerva began their Dana Cup campaign with an explosive performance against Norway’s GUI Sportsklubb. The Indian side showed no signs of fatigue from their Gothia heroics, dismantling their European opponents 23–0 in a jaw-dropping display of relentless attacking football. Leading the goal fest was Raj with a sensational double hat-trick, scoring six goals on his own.

Lisham Amarson and Yohenba both netted three each, while Tony, K. Chetan, Rajesh, Reeson, Denamoni, and Mahtab also got on the scoresheet, leaving a stunned GUI defense in their wake. The match was less a contest and more a showcase of precision, pace, and team chemistry.

Later on the same day, Minerva faced a physically strong and quick Prostat Sports Academy from Uganda. The African side offered more resistance, but Minerva’s cohesion and quality once again proved too hot to handle. They ran out comfortable 18–0 winners, maintaining another clean sheet and once again putting on a goalscoring clinic.

Denamoni and Chetan T. scored two each, with Raj continuing his golden form, also bagging a brace. Reeson, Punshiba, Kamal, K. Chetan, Thokchom, Tony, Rajesh, Daksh, and Yohenba also joined the scoring spree. Two matches in, 41 goals scored and none conceded—a statement to the rest of the field.

But the challenge is far from over. Up next, Minerva will face Gulf United—one of the strongest academy setups in the UAE—followed by Kongsberg IF, a tough and technically disciplined Norwegian team known for their structured style and high work rate.

These matches will be crucial in shaping the knockout stages, as only the top teams proceed. Both Gulf United and Kongsberg IF are well-drilled outfits with players used to European conditions and are expected to test Minerva’s defensive organization and mental resilience.

For Minerva, the Dana Cup campaign isn’t just about victories—it’s about continuing their mission of putting Indian youth football on the global map. The triumph at the World Youth Cup was a watershed moment, but replicating or even coming close to that in another elite European competition like Dana Cup would further cement their legacy.

The squad, brimming with energy and confidence, is playing with the belief that they belong among the best. And so far, they are proving it with every pass, every press, and every goal.

As the tournament progresses and the level of competition stiffens, the spotlight will be on how these young Indian warriors handle pressure and rise to the occasion. But if their early performances are anything to go by, Minerva Academy are not here to just make up the numbers. They’re here to conquer—again.
