This dominating performance marks the team’s third consecutive win in the playoffs, topping the chart and securing a coveted spot in the final rounds.
East Bengal already known as the giants came out of Group A, outclassing major regional clubs en route to the playoffs.
It was the final playoff group-stage match against East Bengal that truly made headlines, the Kolkata giants, finished second in Group A with 20 points—just two behind Mohun Bagan—entered the tie with a reputation for their attacking prowess.
In the group stages, East Bengal had stunned Mohun Bagan 4-1 in their first meeting and narrowly lost the return fixture 1-0. Their journey to the playoffs included victories over Mohammedan Sporting, Bengal Football Academy, BMSC, and Adamas United.
