Minerva Academy Dominates Day 2 at Helsinki Cup 2025 with Emphatic Wins Over Icelandic Giants KR and Afturelding

Minerva Academy FC’s dream run at the Helsinki Cup 2025 continued in spectacular fashion as they wrapped up Day 2 with two statement victories against two of Iceland’s most respected football institutions — KR Reykjavík and Afturelding.

The Indian side showcased their attacking flair and tactical discipline across both matches, dispatching KR with a stunning 9-0 win, followed by a confident 3-0 victory over Afturelding later in the day. After four games, Minerva Academy remain unbeaten and unscored upon, sitting comfortably atop Group A with 12 points and a remarkable goal difference of +24.

The morning began with a mouthwatering clash against KR Reykjavík, Iceland’s most successful football club and a true European veteran. Founded in 1899 and crowned Icelandic champions 27 times, KR brought with them a reputation of legacy, discipline, and footballing excellence.

But Minerva’s youngsters, fearless and fired up, took the game by the scruff of the neck from the opening whistle. The scoring began early with Raj setting the tone, followed by a flurry of attacks that KR simply could not contain. Chetan added to the tally with two sublime finishes, and Punshiba continued his golden run in the tournament by netting twice more. The floodgates opened wide as Minerva’s attacking unit ran riot, ultimately sealing an unforgettable 9-0 demolition — one of the most lopsided results of the tournament so far.

Later in the day, Minerva faced a much-anticipated battle against Afturelding, a club steeped in over a century of football tradition. Founded in 1909 and recently promoted to Iceland’s top-flight league, Afturelding have built a reputation for nurturing talent and competing fiercely. Their well-rounded squad, coupled with a solid youth and community program, meant the Indian side had to remain focused and clinical.

Once again, Raj opened the scoring with a calm finish, while Punshiba continued to be a constant threat, adding yet another goal to his tournament tally. Kabir capped off the win with a well-timed strike that ensured Minerva’s fourth straight clean sheet and a convincing 3-0 result.

With four wins from four matches, Minerva Academy FC lead the group with 12 points, six clear of second-placed KR (IS), and have not conceded a single goal in the tournament. Their attacking prowess, supported by rock-solid defending and efficient teamwork, has set a new benchmark in Group A. The dominance displayed against two Icelandic heavyweights has not only sent a message across Helsinki but also showcased the rising standards of Indian youth football on a global platform.

As the tournament moves into its decisive phase, Minerva look like strong contenders to go all the way — bold, hungry, and united in their mission to conquer Europe, one game at a time.
