Ludhiana:
Minerva Academy F.C. continued their rampant start to the AIFF Junior League campaign with a commanding 6–0 victory over YFC Khad, registering their third consecutive win of the season. The Warriors delivered another dominant away performance in Ludhiana, reinforcing their status as one of the most formidable sides in the competition.
Travelling for their third away fixture of the campaign, Minerva faced league debutants YFC Khad, who had shown promise in earlier matches. However, Minerva wasted no time in asserting control. The breakthrough came in the 7th minute, when Sandup rose highest to convert from a well-rehearsed corner routine, underlining the visitors’ sharp set-piece execution.
Just five minutes later, Minerva struck again from another corner. Mahtab capitalised on defensive hesitation to double the lead, putting the hosts under immediate pressure. The Warriors continued to dominate possession and territory, dictating the tempo and pinning YFC Khad deep inside their half.
Their sustained pressure resulted in a free-kick opportunity just outside the penalty area. Denamoni, last season’s top goal-scorer, calmly slotted the ball into the second post to make it 3–0, marking his first appearance and first goal of the season in emphatic fashion. Two minutes later, a crucial body-line save by Chingkhei initiated a swift counterattack. Denamoni’s incisive cutback across the face of goal forced a defensive error, resulting in an own goal as the hosts succumbed to relentless pressure. Minerva headed into halftime with a commanding 4–0 advantage.
The second half saw Minerva maintain their dominance, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Despite missing more than half a dozen clear chances, the Warriors remained disciplined and composed. Azam Khan stepped up to extend the lead, scoring a well-taken brace to complete a comprehensive 6–0 victory.
The result further highlights Minerva Academy F.C.’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity. With 29 goals scored and just one conceded in three matches, the Warriors sit firmly second in the points table with nine points, showcasing both consistency and intent in the early stages of the campaign.
Minerva Academy F.C. now look ahead to a high-stakes encounter as they prepare to host league leaders Punjab FC on 21st February in their first home match of the season. The upcoming clash promises to be a defining fixture as Minerva aim to continue their winning momentum and stake a stronger claim at the top of the table.
